In June 2001, the Health Service Foundation of the South Shore stepped forward to help meet the need for a dedicated Echocardiography Lab at South Shore Regional Hospital. Over the next few months, the Foundation raised more than $370,000.
Echocardiography, also called an echocardiogram or Echo, is an ultrasound examination of the heart, which offers a clear image of the valves and chambers of the heart. The dedicated Lab, which officially opened in December 2002, means better care for heart patients on the South Shore by allowing more timely and accurate testing of heart patients.
