Pictou County group reaches out to youth on social media

Shelby's Story

Pictou County woman sits in waiting room.

This new series of videos available for Pictou County youth is designed to highlight the range of mental health and addictions services available to them in their community, as well as how they can access those resources.

A subcommittee had been exploring options for increasing youth awareness of local services after it identified that there was a general lack of awareness among youth about the wide range of help options available right in their own community. The committee decided that the best way to reach out to young people would be by launching a video-based awareness campaign on various social media sites. These videos don't just show them what's available, but help them experience it alongside other youth that share their challenges and have found help.

Partner agency Roots House for Youth applied to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia to support the project and we were successful in having our project funded.
