Painting the picture of health
Nova Scotia Health Authority, in partnership with the Municipality of the County of Antigonish, recently unveilled a new health equity mural as part of the County’s Municipal Mural Project.
In the spring of 2015, NSHA’s Health Equity and Social Justice Committee in the Antigonish, Guysborough and Strait area applied for the Municipal Mural Project with the idea of showcasing health equity and the social determinants of health in and around the community.
The mural, which looks like a handmade quilt, uses images and visuals rather than words to showcase the social determinants. Some are more abstract than others, but all help to paint a picture of what surrounds Antigonish County.
The mural was painted by local artist, Andrew Murray (who is also a member of the Health Equity Committee) and was unveiled today at the Municipal Administration Office. This is where it will stay to be viewed by the public.
