Planned power outage will impact services at FMH

Lunenburg – The public is advised that there will be a temporary, planned power outage at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital between 7 am and 7 pm, Saturday, October 18.

Some areas of the hospital including the emergency department and medical unit will be without power for several hours. As a result, the emergency department will close for the entire day and visitation will be restricted to immediate family only.

The main elevators will be out of service. Anyone requiring access to the second or third floor of the hospital will need to use the elevator located near the Rehabilitation Services Department on the first floor. The hospital’s telephone system will also be out of service. Calls should be directed to the switchboard at South Shore Regional Hospital at 902-543-4603.

Contingency plans are in place to ensure safe care for patients on the medical unit including battery powered lighting and additional staffing.

The Veterans’ Unit, Restorative Care Centre and Alternate Level of Care Unit will have power.

The power outage is necessary to replace the breakers in the main electrical system in the hospital, which are over 60 years old. The project is being funded by the Department of Health and Wellness and is critical to the ongoing operation of the hospital.

Power is expected to be restored by 7 pm.

Anyone requiring emergency services is advised to call 911 or visit South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater. Patients with non-emergencies should contact Health Link 811 for medical advice. South Shore Health appreciates the public’s support and cooperation and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
