At approximately 9:30 pm this evening, there was a fire in an electrical panel at South Shore Regional Hospital, which caused a power failure. The fire was immediately extinguished. No patients or staff were injured. There is currently no power on the fourth floor. Emergency lighting has been put in place. The power surge also impacted the CT scanner, which is currently out of service. Emergency Health Services has ambulances on site to transport patients if necessary.
We are currently assessing the damage and are hopeful we will be able to rebuild the panel and restore power within a few hours.
Emergency services are available and we expect all outpatient services to operate as normal on Thursday. We will provide further updates as new information becomes available.
